RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the visual performance and rotational stability of the multifocal toric intraocular lens in myopes. METHODS: This prospective, observational study included patients with an axial length of ≥24.5 mm and regular corneal astigmatism of >1 diopter who underwent phacoemulsification cataract surgery and implantation of a multifocal toric intraocular lens (AT LISA toric 909M). The visual acuity, defocus curves, residual astigmatism, rotational stability, higher-order aberrations (HOAs), modulation transfer function (MTF), spectacle dependence and patient satisfaction were evaluated 3 months after surgery. RESULTS: Forty-three eyes from 30 patients were enrolled in this study. Postoperatively, uncorrected distance and near visual acuities (logMAR) were 0.09 ± 0.08 (standard deviation, SD) and 0.14 ± 0.08, respectively. The defocus curve analysis provided a bimodal curve showing two peaks of maximum vision at 0.0 D and at -3.0 D defocus level. The multifocal toric intraocular lens showed excellent rotational stability; the mean rotation was 4.02 ± 2.49 (SD) degrees at 3 months postoperatively. Refractive predictability was excellent with a mean spherical equivalent of 0.19 ± 0.37 (SD) diopters (D) and a mean refractive cylinder of -0.34 ± 0.39 (SD) D. CONCLUSIONS: The diffractive multifocal toric intraocular lens, AT LISA toric 909M, provided effective distance and near visual acuities in myopic eyes. It was a predictable and effective device with good rotational stability for the correction of preexisting astigmatism during cataract surgery. In this study, more than 80% of patients achieved spectacle independence.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to characterize the temporal and spatial distribution of myopia among students aged 7-18 years, by analyzing the aggregation area and providing the basis for the prevention and control of myopia in China. Methods: A database for the spatial analysis of myopia in China during 1995-2014 was established using ArcGIS10.0 software as a platform for data management and presentation. A spatial autocorrelation analysis of myopia was undertaken, and a temporal and spatial scan analysis was performed using SaTScan9.5 software. Results: Our data demonstrated that the prevalence of myopia in China in 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2014 was 35.9, 41.5, 48.7, 57.3, and 57.1%, respectively, thus indicating a gradual upward trend. The prevalence of myopia was analyzed in various provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions), and the highest was found in Jiangsu Province, with an average Moran's I index of 0.244295 in China (P ≤ 0.05). According to the local Moran's I autocorrelation analysis, there was a spatial aggregation of myopia prevalence among students in the entire country, with Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, and Shanghai being classified as high-high aggregation areas, while Hainan and Guangxi were classified as low-low aggregation areas. In addition, the Getis-Ord General G results of the global hotspot analysis showed a countrywide myopia prevalence index of 0.035020 and a Z score of 1.7959 (P = 0.07251). Because the myopia prevalence correlation difference was not statistically significant, there were no "positive hotspots" or "negative hotspots." The local hotspot analysis shows that Shandong and Jiangsu belong to high-value aggregation areas, while Hainan and Guizhou belong to low-value aggregation areas. Further analysis using time-space scanning showed 15 aggregation regions in five stages, with four aggregation regions having statistically significant differences (P ≤ 0.05). However, the aggregation range has changed over time. Overall, from 1995 to 2014, the aggregation areas for the myopia prevalence in Chinese students have shifted from the northwest, north, and northeast regions to the southeast regions. Conclusion: Our data demonstrate that, from 1995 to 2014, the prevalence of myopia increased in students aged 7-18 years in China. In addition, the prevalence of myopia is randomly distributed in various provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) and exhibits spatial aggregation. Also, the gathering area is gradually shifting to the southeast, with the existence of high-risk areas. It is, therefore, necessary to focus on this area and undertake targeted prevention and control measures.

Few reports have investigated the predictive value of urinary cadmium (UCd) and telomere length on renal function impairment. Therefore, we constructed nomogram models, using a cross-sectional survey to analyze the potential function of UCd and telomere length in renal function impairment risk. We randomly selected two community populations in Shanxi, China, and general information of the subjects was collected through face-to-face questionnaire surveys. Venous blood of subjects was collected to detect absolute telomere length (ATL) by real-time quantitative chain reaction (RT-PCR). Collecting urinary samples detected UCd and urinary N-acetyl-ß-d-glucosaminidase (UNAG). Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was obtained based on serum creatinine (SCr). Nomogram models on risk prediction analysis of renal function impairment was constructed. After adjusting for other confounding factors, UCd (ß = 0.853, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.739 ~ 0.986) and ATL (ß = 1.803, 95%CI: 1.017 ~ 1.154) were independent risk influencing factors for increased UNAG levels, and the risk factors for eGFR reduction were UCd (ß = 1.011, 95%CI: 1.187 ~ 1.471), age (ß = 1.630, 95%CI: 1.303 ~ 2.038), and sex (ß = 0.181, 95%CI: 0.105 ~ 0.310). Using UCd, ATL, sex, and age to construct the nomogram, and the C-statistics 0.584 (95%CI: 0.536 ~ 0.632) and 0.816 (95%CI: 0.781 ~ 0.851) were obtained by internal verification of the calibration curve, C-statistics revealed nomogram model validation was good and using decision curve analysis (DCA) confirmed a good predictive value of the nomogram models. In a nomogram model, ATL, UCd, sex, and age were detected as independent risk factors for renal function impairment, with UCd being the strongest predictor.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the current study was to explore the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of registered cases of cataract surgery in China from 2013 to 2017. METHODS: A database for spatial analysis of cataract surgery in China in 2013-2017 was established using ArcGIS10.0 software as a platform for data management and presentation. Spatial autocorrelation analysis of cataract surgery was undertaken, and temporal and spatial scan analysis was done using SaTScan 9.5 software. RESULTS: From 2013 to 2017, annual cataract surgery rates (CSRs) in China were 1200, 1400, 1782, 2070, and 2205 per 1 million population, indicating a gradually increasing trend. Local Moran's I autocorrelation analysis showed that there was spatial clustering of CSR in China, with Anhui being a low-high clustering region. Findings of global hotspot analysis Getis-Ord General G showed that General G index of national CSR was <0.01, Z = 1.12, P = 0.26. Findings of staged spatial-temporal scan analysis indicated that 18 areas of aggregation were found in 2 stages. Observed differences in each clustering area were statistically significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: CSRs in China showed increasing trend year by year and were randomly distributed, with spatial clustering, and Anhui was reported as a low-high clustering region. However, high-risk areas still persist, requiring focused attention and targeted prevention and control measures.

In this work, we report a rapid stability phenomenon of ferroelectric polarization in the Ca, Ce hybrid doped BaTiO3 ceramics (BCaxT+BTCe8) (x = 10, 20, 24, 30 mol%) prepared by separate doping Ca2+ and Ce4+ ions. Double hysteresis loops are identified in the aged BCaxT+BTCe8 samples; meanwhile, the polarization of these loops present a rapid decrease within very short aging time (about 1 h), and then the polarization remains almost unchanged over the followed ~1000 h. This phenomenon is not reported in previous researches. Raman scattering spectrum indicates that oxygen vacancies are generated because of Ca2+ ions entering into Ti sites partly in the BCaxT+BTCe8 samples, and then the oxygen vacancies are quantitatively characterized by half of the Ce3+ content through the XPS test. The emergence of the aging phenomenon is explained through the defect dipole reorientation mechanism. The larger radius of Ca2+ ions is further discussed as a possible reason for the rapid stability phenomenon of ferroelectric polarization. It may provide an effective design method from the viewpoint of the ionic radius to accelerate polarization stability, and thus to facilitate the possible practical applications of the aging effect.
